Mr. Watson specializes in the litigation and trial of complex
commercial cases. His practice focuses on securities, accounting
malpractice, antitrust, trade secret misappropriation, energy
and the False Claims Act.
As part of a team of lawyers, Mr. Watson represented two whistleblowers
in connection with a qui tam lawsuit brought against
HCA Inc., the nation’s largest for-profit healthcare
provider, for Medicare cost-report fraud. HCA Inc. paid $631
million to settle the case along with two other qui tam
lawsuits.
Mr. Watson also represented Sempra Energy Resources in an
arbitration brought by Occidental Energy Ventures Corp., in
which Occidental alleged that Sempra breached fiduciary duties
relating to the joint development of a power plant and sought
more than $100 million in actual damages. Following an arbitration,
the arbitration panel issued an award in favor of Sempra on
all claims.
