Brian Yates

Mr. Yates’ practice focuses on patent and technology litigation. His litigation experience is diverse, including trade secret misappropriation, patent infringement, trademark infringement, breach of contract, fraud, and various disputes concerning the scope and enforceability of patent license agreements.

Outside of the litigation context, Mr. Yates has managed large domestic and foreign patent portfolios, including preparing and prosecuting patent applications, and providing opinions on issues of patentability, validity, infringement, and regulatory compliance.  His client counseling has included identifying alternative embodiments and design-around parameters, and conducting market research and due diligence to evaluate potential licensees and joint-development opportunities.

Prior to joining HBD in 2007, Mr. Yates represented technology companies in a wide range of intellectual property matters at Christie, Parker & Hale LLP.
